It was an excellent day – I learned a lot, met some new people and came away with a beautiful handmade box that I’ll keep forever.

Sollas Translation is an English/Gaelic/German translation service run by Corinna Krause on the island of North Uist. Corinna moved from Germany to Scotland more than ten years ago and has recently completed a PhD in self-translation of Gaelic poetry. Her new website is available in English and German.

Ruth has finally moved into the Web 2.0 era with a new personal website for her proofreading/web design work. The new site (www.scotproof.com) integrates her Flickr photo gallery, incorporates a blog and is intended, over time, to become a useful resource rather than just a static web presence.

The new personal website for John Kirriemuir (www.silversprite.com) went live today, bringing together his blog and details of his business, and replacing an older website.

The website contains a number of automatically generated features including a photo-show that links to John’s picture archive on Flickr, a calendar with links to recent blog postings, and local weather readings.

Pauline Prior-Pitt’s ‘North Uist Sea Poems’ has won the prestigious Callum Macdonald Memorial Award for pamphlet poetry. The judges were unanimous in their decision and the award was presented by Lesley Duncan, poetry editor of The Herald, at a ceremony at the National Library of Scotland on 15 May 2006.

Between October 2004 and January 2005, Pauline visited the shore at Sollas beach, North Uist, and wrote about how the sea was on that particular day. The sequence finishes with poems about the dramatic storm that hit the islands on January 11th 2005.
