After a pleasant summer in which one half of the Nice Wee Sites team conferenced in Chicago and Seattle, we are both back on Berneray and looking forward to an autumn and winter of Uist-based website designing.
At the moment we are producing a website for a well-known South Uist tourist business. However, we can proceed with the development of several websites at the same time, so if you want a website - or are seriously thinking you may need one - then get in touch.
Also - look out for our advert in the September issue of Am Paipear!
The “Isle of Berneray website” celebrated its 2nd birthday on 3rd May. During the two years there were 2,756,334 page accesses, from people in 173 of the 192 member states of the UN.
In that time, we also received 840 email enquiries through the website from around the world.

The Berneray website serves as our voluntary contribution to the island community. It remains independent of any group, organisation, or tedious politics. We thank many Berneray residents for their support and contributions over the last two years.

Nunton Steadings on Benbecula is a centre for food, culture, media and the arts in the Uists. The Steadings is located in the middle of the Uists, close to both Balivanich (Benbecula) airport and a white sandy beach.
Its new website is intended to keep locals and visitors informed about events at the Steadings, from open mic nights and concerts to films and exhibitions - subscribe to the RSS feed and have updates delivered direct to your desktop! Or let people know what you thought of an event by leaving a comment.
There is a growing gallery of photographs, and a link to Radio Nunton, the internet radio station. The website also describes the extensive facilities on offer, including the tearooms and shop, wireless broadband internet access and audio-visual equipment, and gives a short history of the building and its owners. There is an online form for booking the Steadings for functions. More content will be added by Phil and Mairi at the Steadings over time.
Visit the website: www.nuntonsteadings.com … then visit the centre. (Highly recommended by Nice Wee Sites: superb homemade lemon curd, available in the shop.)
Very impressed with the site, a big thank you from Nunton Steadings. - Phil Ladyman, Nunton Steadings. It’s so clean and easy to move around and one of the best sites I have seen for being attractive to the eye. It portrays a high class image. - Angie Johnson

Seal View is a brand new bed and breakfast establishment on the island of Berneray in the Outer Hebrides, offering comfortable and spacious accommodation with fantastic views of the Bays Loch seal colony and the Sound of Harris beyond.

This is our first B&B and the first time we have commissioned a website. We are delighted with the sleek and clean look of the site, which is the image we are hoping to promote for our business. We are confident that we have made the right choice in asking Nice Wee Sites to create a site for us and making this the main platform of the marketing activity we are carrying out for our business. - Andrew & Catherine Ross, Seal View B&B.

The UCVO (Uist Council for Voluntary Organisations) assists voluntary groups and organisations throughout the Uists in procedural, funding and legal issues. Their website contains a growing collection of content, covering these issues, of relevance to groups in islands from Berneray in the north to Eriskay in the south.
Nice Wee Sites created a Content Management System that allows UCVO staff to create and amend all of the content. For example, groups based in the Uists can submit their details via a fill-in form on the website; UCVO staff then take this information, check and amend it, and add it to the website.
Clean cut and easy to use, our website has become an important and vital asset for our communication with the voluntary groups on the Uists. Supported by the professionalism of John and Ruth we would recommend their service to all. - Helena Coxshall, UCVO. UCVO are extremely happy with the quality and design of our website.
We have had lots of positive feedback on how easy it is to use. - Eilidh Cameron, UCVO.

Nice Wee Sites is one year old today. To celebrate, we’ve revamped our website.
These are busy times for Nice Wee Sites. Currently, we are at various stages of developing three websites:
- Nunton Steadings, a multifunctional tea room, meeting space and function centre in Benbecula;
- Seal View Bed and Breakfast, a luxury accommodation on the island of Berneray;
- the Uist Council of Voluntary Organisations (UCVO), based in Benbecula.

The new personal website for John Kirriemuir (www.silversprite.com) went live today, bringing together his blog and details of his business, and replacing an older website.
The website contains a number of automatically generated features including a photo-show that links to John’s picture archive on Flickr, a calendar with links to recent blog postings, and local weather readings.

The Outer Hebrides Website Search uses Google to search across a range of sites to do with the Western Isles.
Searches are limited to a number of Outer Hebrides websites (e.g. the Comhairle, several community websites, some local groups and various Outer Hebrides cultural and musical societies). The outcome should be a smaller, but more relevant and local, set of results.
Try it out using the name of your community or anything local at all! Visit the nice wee site (www.hebridean.info) for more details.

Sgoil an Iochdair agus a’Choimhearsnachd (Eochar School and Community) are a small local charity who support recreation and sport in the catchment area of the school, from Peninerine in South Uist to Island Flodda, Benbecula. Their current big project is to improve the school playing fields, opening them out to wider community use.
The group’s new website brings together details of past projects and future plans, as well as news about current initiatives. Meeting minutes, policies and reports are also available. Through the website, you can learn how to join the group, make donations and get involved in projects. Visit their nice wee site (www.iochdar.co.uk) for more details.
Nice wee sites have made us a website that is easy to use, simple to update, and one that looks good. The consultation process, the trouble shooting and the training sessions all helped us to get the site we wanted. - Kate Dawson, secretary, Sgoil an Iochdair agus a’Choimhearsnachd.
